Unit ProjectUnit ActivitiesReflectionI applied the techniques examined in this unit by using color in unique ways. The techniques examined during this unit impacted the way I approached capturing my images because they allowed me to look at things differently than I would have before. One challenge I came across was choosing what to take pictures of. I started playing around with shutter speed and lights not thinking I could use the images for this project. After I brought them into Lightroom I realized I could play around with the colors. I have improved my photo taking abilities because I now know how to better approach taking images and using the correct settings. I can continue to improve in my ability to know what settings to use and to make my images more appealing, interesting, and focused. Overall, what I took away from this assignment was how to use multiple techniques, such as shutter speed and color, to make my image look more interesting.

Unit ProjectUnit ActivitiesReflectionI applied the techniques examined in this unit by using shutter speed to in unique ways. The techniques examined during this unit impacted the way I approached capturing my images because they allowed me to look at things differently than I would have before. One challenge I came across was focusing the image. I have improved my photo taking abilities because I now know how to better approach taking images and using the correct settings. I can continue to improve in my ability to know what settings to use and to make my images more appealing, interesting, and focused. Overall, what I took away from this assignment was how to use different settings such as slow and fast shutter speed to make my image tell a story and look more interesting.
Six Steps of Panning 1) SLOWER SHUTTER SPEED Set your shutter speed slower than normal, but not too slow or it will be difficult to obtain a clear subject. For example, to pan a moving car, you may try speed of 1/60 second and play around till you get the best image. Start with 1/30 second for moving subject likes people walking or cycling. The faster the shutter speed, the more clear the background will turn out, and the less motion blur there will be. 2) AUTO FOCUS Turn on your camera’s Auto focus function, half press the shutter button to lock on, aim and pan moving subject. Let panning continue after fully press shutter, so smooth motion blur can be achieved from start to finish of your shot. If the auto focus of your camera is not fast enough, you may pre-focus it at the spot your subject will end up in frame. 3) CHOOSE THE RIGHT LOCATION Selecting the right location to pan plays an important role in getting a good image. The place should be safe and without obstacles for panning. You may also consider using a telephoto lens to maintain a certain distance while shooting. 4) SAME LEVEL WITH SUBJECT Position your camera at the same level of the subject you are going to shoot. This can help in focusing as to obtain a clear subject in your image. 5) LEAVE SUFFICIENT SPACE TO SUBJECT Insufficient space will constrain your pan. 6) USING MONOPOD/TRIPOD Using a monopod or tripod during shooting may help you achieve a clear subject. Ideas to accomplish one of these techniquesMy idea is to photograph a car driving by and have have the back ground blurry and the car in focus. One other idea is to photograph a person running or biking.

Matrix MeteringThis image is a good example of how metering is used to accomplish correct lighting senarios because the lighting has correct exposure which allows for the maximum amount of contrast without overexposing. Image 1: 'The Only Ones who Lost'1. In this image, there is a young girl standing in the midsts of garbage and debris from the nine-month long battle to recapture Iraq's second largest city from ISIS. She is holding what she said was the most precious thing she recovered from the rubble of her house in the Old City. Her father said, "She loves this doll house because she has no home of her own." This image tells tells the story well because it includes a young girl, standing in garbage, holding one of her only belongings in her hand. This image portrays to the reader a sense of sadness and despair, which latches them into the story and causes them to want to read more about the situation in Iraq. The article was necessary to truly understand what was going on in the image because the article was not solely about the loss of material goods, but it was also about the many lives lost in the nine-month long battle. This image is thought provoking because it shows a young girl with nothing, clinging onto the only belonging she has. The dream house symbolizes her dream of having a house some day, and living a happier life. This was the first time women were allowed to attend a major sporting event in Saudi Arabia. The end of this harsh gender segregation began in October 2017 as part of the ambitious reforms made by Mohammed bin Salman, the 32-year-old crown prince. This image tells the story well because it portrays the happiness in the woman's face as she is finally given the right she has deserved all along to watch a sporting event. This image also shows the togetherness and unity brought about by this move towards equality for women in Saudi Arabia. This image is a powerful example of what took place not only because it shows the woman enjoying herself at the soccer game, but also because this image portrays more than what the article could have ever said. It shows the true emotion of happiness and enjoyment on the woman's face. Not only was the woman overjoyed by her allowance into the major sporting event, but as was the man standing next to her. The movement to equality for women not only benefits women, but also men as well. This image shows several woman standing in unity at the second annual Woman's March. This image tells the story of the article well because the purpose of the Woman's march is to march together and fight the injustice that came with the election of Donald Trump. However, it did not stop at a march. People all over the country continued to protest and march against injustice in our country through out 2017. I feel that this image is a powerful representation of the article. It represents strong women of all different races and religions standing together to fight for something they believe in.
